The LUNAR TBM Series are "The World's Smallest Transformer-Balanced Large Diaphragm Condenser Microphones". CNC milled out of Stainless Steel right here in the USA, It's built to withstand... Well possibly a trip to the moon! Its compact Patent Pending design is a break from the usual size of similar sounding microphones. It stands at 4.2 inches tall (106mm), 1.9 inches wide (48mm), and 0.8 inches deep (21mm).
We designed the microphone around the size of the capsule, transformer, and internal suspension mount; sized just large enough to fit the components needed to produce the "big sound" we required. You won't believe how such a large full featured sounding microphone comes in such a compact package. TBM microphones are so small, we couldn't use a standard size XLR connection, it was too large! Instead we implemented a Mini XLR connection, and we include a short adapter cable with every purchase, so don't worry you can still use your regular XLR cables to connect right out of the box!
Speaking of full featured, the TBM Series microphones aren't limited in features at all, even-though they're tiny... They have 3 Switchable polar patterns: Cardioid, Figure-8 and Omni, making this an extremely versatile microphone for many uses. But wait there's more!... Also included is a bass roll-off switch, and a pad to mic extra loud sources.
This K67 style capsule is center terminated and tuned to vintage specs. Each capsule is hand lapped, hand drilled, gold sputtered, and skinned in the USA. These capsules have rich lows and smooth highs. They are detailed and sensitive, allowing you to pick up every little nuance in a performance or sound capture.
Each capsule is tested multiple times to ensure it meets standards. They are checked individually on our in-house testing rig for its frequency response. Through-out the build process it will go through a 24-hour burn-in period with the fully assembled microphone, and then it's frequency response tested again. They have a small presence boost around 2kHz to 6kHz and then again a gentle rise starting at 8kHz to around 16kHz giving a smooth but clear top end.
A genuine German made Thiersch M7 capsule, 32mm double-sided Large Diaphragm Condenser transducer. Thiersch world renowned M7 capsules can be found in some of the very best microphones on the planet, costing many thousands of dollars. Each capsule is produced with an extremely tight tolerance of the original Neumann M7 capsule. Thiersch produces 2 versions of this capsule: The PVC skinned just as the original Neumann M7, which unfortunately was unstable and overtime changes in characteristic, and eventually can deteriorate; the other version is skinned in PET which is very stable and retains it's characteristics over its lifetime. We choose the PET for it's longevity and characteristics that pair well with our sound design.
This ensures that our microphone will retain its character and quality for generations when cared for. The Thiersch M7 is one of the very few parts of the TBM-07 that isn't made in the USA, however we believe the German quality of a Thiersch M7 capsule just cannot be beat. This brings the best quality possible to our microphone and not compromising for sake of trying to reproduce this kind of capsule in the USA. We custom designed a proprietary suspension mount for the capsule that helps eliminate handling noise and vibration, it isolates the M7 from the rest of the microphone housing. This internal suspension mount is made in the USA as well, where we also hand assemble and test every single microphone.
This USA made CineMag transformer is the largest transformer we could fit in this tiny package (and it wasn't easy!) Providing the TBM Series with rich lows, smooth highs, and character unlike any other microphone its size.
Since our microphone is only 0.8 inches thick (21mm) we went mini! We use high-quality, USA made, Switchcraft Mini-XLR connectors to ensure your signal path is protected. Also you may notice our mounting option... We have milled right into the stainless steel body of the Lunar TBM Series a 1/4"-20 mount thread. This is a solid connection for the included swivel mount and adapter set. This allows a great deal of mounting and positioning options right out of the box.

Our In-house Measurements
To ensure the highest quality, we are utilizing aerospace-grade equipment and incorporating the latest manufacturing technologies. These include high-end 5-Axis CNC machining, CO2 laser cutting, fiber laser engraving, and even the most advanced HP Multi Jet Fusion (MJF) 3D Printing capabilities. We also handle certain manufacturing processes right within our main headquarters in Ohio. Additionally, our printed circuit boards (PCBs) are manufactured domestically in the United States. While many manufacturers outsource this aspect of production, we prioritize domestic manufacturing to maintain the integrity of our products.
The Lunar TBM Series is a testament to our commitment to domestic manufacturing. We take great pride in ensuring that the majority of its components are produced within the USA. Even our stainless steel Torx-Plus screws are manufactured domestically. The Lunar TBM-06 is almost entirely USA-made, with only a few components sourced overseas. The Lunar TBM-07 combines the exceptional quality of German capsules with the reliability of American components within its compact design. We believe that these microphones will achieve the status of “An Instant Classic.”
While more components of the TL Series are manufactured overseas than the TBM series, the final assembly, testing, and quality assurance processes are still meticulously conducted in our main Ohio USA facility. Moreover, we have ambitious plans to eventually manufacture most of the TL series parts primarily in the USA in the near future.
