Ultra Compact, Transformerless, Large Diaphragm Condenser Microphones
SMALL MIC
The LUNAR TL Series are "The World's Smallest Large Diaphragm Condenser Microphones". They are CNC milled out of solid stainless steel. Their compact Patent Pending design is even smaller than our TBM Series. They stand at 3.2 inches tall (82mm), 1.9 inches wide (48mm), and 0.8 inches thick (21mm).
We designed the microphone around the size of the capsule and internal suspension mount, sized just large enough to fit the components needed to produce the "big sound" we required. You won't believe how such a large full sounding microphone comes in such a compact package. TL Series microphones are so small, we couldn't use a standard size XLR connection, it was too large! Instead we implemented a Mini XLR connection, and we include a short adapter cable with every purchase, so don't worry you can still use your regular XLR cables to connect right out of the box!
The TL Series share the same capsule options as our flagship TL Series. Choose between the M7 or K67 capsule depending on your needs. We designed the TL Series microphones to be a more affordable version by choosing a cardioid only pattern, and going with a transformerless circuit. There is still a PAD switch on the front of the microphone, allowing you to capture sounds from extremely loud sources.
This K67 style 34mm double-sided Large Diaphragm Condenser transducer is center terminated and tuned to vintage specs. Each capsule is hand lapped, hand drilled, gold sputtered, and skinned in the USA. These capsules have rich lows and smooth highs. They are detailed and sensitive, allowing you to pick up every little nuance in a performance or sound capture.
Each capsule is tested multiple times to ensure it meets standards. They are checked individually on our in-house testing rig for its frequency response. Through-out the build process it will go through a 24-hour burn-in period with the fully assembled microphone, and then it's frequency response tested again. They have a small presence boost around 2kHz to 6kHz and then again a gentle rise starting at 8kHz to around 16kHz giving a smooth but clear and un-hyped top end.
This 34mm double-sided Large Diaphragm Condenser transducer is based on the original K47 brass ring version that had replaced the M7 capsule. The brass ring version was found in the U47 and U47 FET microphones from the early 60's before switching over to different materials for the tension rings (such as fiberboard and then plastics). This K47 style capsule is center terminated and has a single brass backplate with 2 diaphragms (one on each side) tensioned with pressure from 2 brass rings just like the early 1960's originals. It has 6-micron thick Mylar film diaphragms that are evaporated gold covered. The K47 capsules have a full frequency range of 20Hz - 20kHz.

Through-out the build process it will go through a 24-hour burn-in period with the fully assembled microphone, and then it's frequency response tested again. They have a presence boost around 2.5kHz to 5kHz and then a relatively flat response from 8kHz on up to about 14kHz where it then gently rolls off, giving this capsule a bit of a mid-forward sound and some air on top.
This 34mm Large Diaphragm Condenser transducer is based on the original K47 with plastic ring. This "N" variant is a neutral tuned capsule, having a flatter response than the non-N version, which may help in versatility on various sources, just EQ as needed. The TL-04 and TL-06 share the same microphone body. For now they are CNC machined out of solid blocks of stainless steel over-seas to keep the TL Series more affordable however... we ARE working to have these made in-house at our Ohio location at some point in the future, while still keeping their lower cost.
The stainless steel front and back plates have a very unique bead-blasted finish. (Sometimes hard to photograph, please see our videos to fully appreciate their beauty!) We laser etch logos and text on each one in-house. In the future we can open options for custom laser etching for all our microphones.
Since our microphone is only 0.8 inches thick (21mm) we went mini! We use high-quality, USA made, Switchcraft Mini-XLR connectors to ensure your signal path is protected. Also you may notice our mounting option... We have milled right into the body of the Lunar TL Series a 1/4"-20 mount thread. This is a solid connection for the included swivel mount and adapter set. This allows a great deal of mounting and positioning options right out of the box.
- Impact and water resistant hard case that fits all the included accessories
- 1.5 foot Female Mini-XLR to Male XLR adapter cable
- 1/4"-20 to 1/4"-20 Magic Arm
- 1/4"-20 to 5/8"-27 stand adapter
- 1/4"-20 male/male adapter
- 5/8"-27 to 3/8" stand adapter

Our In-house Measurements
To ensure the highest quality, we are utilizing aerospace-grade equipment and incorporating the latest manufacturing technologies. These include high-end 5-Axis CNC machining, CO2 laser cutting, fiber laser engraving, and even the most advanced HP Multi Jet Fusion (MJF) 3D Printing capabilities. We also handle certain manufacturing processes right within our main headquarters in Ohio. Additionally, our printed circuit boards (PCBs) are manufactured domestically in the United States. While many manufacturers outsource this aspect of production, we prioritize domestic manufacturing to maintain the integrity of our products.
The Lunar TBM Series is a testament to our commitment to domestic manufacturing. We take great pride in ensuring that the majority of its components are produced within the USA. Even our stainless steel Torx-Plus screws are manufactured domestically. The Lunar TBM-06 is almost entirely USA-made, with only a few components sourced overseas. The Lunar TBM-07 combines the exceptional quality of German capsules with the reliability of American components within its compact design. We believe that these microphones will achieve the status of “An Instant Classic.”
While more components of the TL Series are manufactured overseas* than the TBM series, the final assembly, testing, and quality assurance processes are still meticulously conducted in our main Ohio USA facility. Moreover, we have ambitious plans to eventually manufacture most of the TL series parts primarily in the USA in the near future. *UPDATE: We have purchased CNC machines to manufacture the rest of the components of the TL Series in the USA as well!
